The AIA Miami Chapter opposes Amendment 4.  For more information and the full length AIA Miami position paper click HERE. For a summary of the AIA Miami position click HERE.

“The Vote No On 4” campaign has released a video that brings to reality the harmful effects of this amendment if approved by the voters in November.  Data shows that if the vote was taken today, it would probably pass by 69 percent, but only needs 60 percent to pass.  The next six months is going to be about educating the public about the amendment.  For more information: http://www.florida2010.org/all-about-vote-no-on-4.

“Amendment 4 – Voter Referenda required for any Comprehensive Plan changes”.  A State Constitutional Amendment on the ballot for November 2, 2010.

Following the 2010 Legislative Session Governor Crist vetoed SB 1964, our “Fairness in Contractual Liability” bill, which would have prevented clients that enter into contracts with design professionals, from circumventing the contract.  This legislation was a response to a ruling in a court case last year which negated the binding effects of limitation of liability clauses in design professionals’ contracts with their clients.  This legislation passed the House of Representative by a 111-2 vote and the Florida Senate by a 33-4 vote.  AIA Florida members wrote hundreds emails, sent letters and made phone calls to the Governor who vetoed the bill anyway.

In response to Governor Crist’s veto of SB 1964, AIA Florida and other coalition members will request an override by the Legislature.  We are currently requesting that the veto be placed on the calendar for the September 2010 Special Session.  Your assistance is needed to again make personal phone calls and send emails to your legislators to educate them on the importance of a veto override.  The purpose of this letter is to ask that you place the Veto of SB 1964 on the September 2010 Special Session Agenda.
